Brow lamination: what and how

As someone who works at a studio, I offer this service to clients. Many have questions, and don’t actually know what a brow lamination exactly intel’s.

In this blog, I am going to explain what a brow lamination is, the do’s and don’t’s of aftercare, and if you are not sure of getting an actual brow lam, what products you can use to give a similar effect to your brows.

What is a brow lamination?

A brow lamination is “perming” the brow hairs to appear fuller, even, and fluffed-up look. It can typically last 4-6 weeks depending on the concentration. It is great for those who prefer a more natural look or who want an easier routine in the morning.

Can anyone get a brow lamination?

Yes! Unless you know you may have a allergy to the formula- which is very uncommon- but always good to check if you have had reactions to other things before!

How does a brow lamination work?

Typically, the technician will first have a consultation with you to make sure both of you guys are on the same page for what the service will include (as many salons offer a brow wax and tint with a brow lam). Once that is completed the technician will start and first go over the shape that you want your brows to be placed in. This can be how you prefer, so really fluffed up, or more natural, and really arched, or very rounded.

Then they will apply some kind of adhesive to “glue” the brows down first, then use a perm solution to then set the brows in place. After the perm solution sits (typically less than 8 mins depending of concentration) they will apply a setting lotion and then go in with the tint, an wax the unwanted hairs.

The service usually lasts between 45-60 mins. Once finished, the technician will reveal the final look, and you get to walk out with amazing brows!

What is the aftercare for a brow lamination?

The number one aftercare is to avoid water for 24 hours. This is crucial, as the perm solution is still working its magic, if you get it wet within those first 24 hrs, it will disrupt the processing and the lamination won’t set in place, and basically you would have to get the service again. But a technician won’t do it unless you wait at least four weeks, because if we do it too early, we could over-process the brows and they would become frizzy/fried from the acids in the perm solutions.

What products can I use, that will give me a similar effect?

The best product to use if you want a brow lamination look would be the brow soap/wax. The two that I love the most are the Patrick Ta Major Brow Shaping Wax. This is a great, long lasting wax that has a clear and tinted (dark brown) pot. I love using it, usually I will fill in my brows a little where I know I don’t have as much shape or fullness, then go in with this to fluff them up and hold them there.

Another one (and honestly a dupe) is the Colourpop Tinted Feature Effect Styling Wax. This feels pretty much the same, and hold say brows in place all day. Highly recommend!

How to use: Most people will dampen the wax with either a setting spray, or just water. then rub a spool in it to pick up product. Then use the spool to push the brows in the desired position. I like to go into the wax again when it is dry to give my brows a lasting fluffed look too.
