My experience at the dermatologist
Once I went to my appointment, I felt immediately taken care of, the nurses and dermatologist were all nice, and helped me figure out the best options for me. The dermatologist took a look at my skin, and we had a conversation about my best options were to help my acne. She then got my prescription figured out, and then talked me through how to use the products, and what to watch out for (flakey skin, dryness, redness).
When I came back for my four month check up, the results from just that little time, were impressive. Not only did my skin look better- I felt better. Sometimes people think that those who get their acne or skin concerns taken care of, is just for vanity, but having cystic acne physically hurts. I was so happy, and proud of the progress that my skin has made since.
My dermatologist knew that from the first appointment, that my skin concerns fell under the hormonal imbalance cause of acne. I was prescribed an antibiotic, and a retinol cream. I still us the retinol cream at night. Once my skin was calmed and balanced, I could see how my skin was not as frustrating to deal with. I could finally enjoy my skincare, instead of being frustrated with my products.
I think I have said it enough, but don’t be ashamed to go to the dermatologist, or see a specialist about a concern. I think it comes through media, making us think that if we don’t have it together, that we are somehow a failure, or not enough. I loved myself when I had cystic acne, and I love myself now. It doesn’t change, but I know that I would want to strive for healthy skin.
