Acne-prone skin favorites

I know that feeling when I am passing by a mirror or a reflection of myself, and I see a red spot on my face. As someone who struggled (occasionally now too) with acne, it can be disheartening that I would have to go through the same cycle to fix my skin all over again.

Here are some products and some advice that I have learned over the last few years that have helped me keep my skin healthy.

I want to prefix that perfect skin is never my goal. I want healthy skin. Skin can be red or irritated once in a while. As I am typing this up, there is a pimple on my chin that I am dealing with right at the moment.

  • Exfoliating regularly

This is an important one, not exfoliating can cause more of dead skin cells to clog the pores, and can make it harder to prevent more breakouts.

I recommend BHA as an exfoliant to use, not everyday of course, exfoliating too much can lead to sensitive or irritated skin. If your skin is still pretty sensitive from acne treatments, I would recommend for PHA’s as they have a larger molecular size and stay on the surface of the skin which equals less irritation.

-Paula’s Choice 2% Liquid BHA Exfoliant

-Neogen Dermatology Green Tea Moist PHA Gauze Peeling

  • Protecting your skin barrier

Making sure that while you are exfoliating, you still hydrate your skin and makeup sure it is to getting dried out.

I recommend ingredients like hyaluronic acid, mugwort, peptides, green tea and many others.

-Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner

-I’m From Mugwort Essence

-Rovectin Clean Lotus Water Cream

-Troiareuke A.G.T. Hydro Essence

  • Applying sunscreen daily

Wearing sunscreen everyday has many benefits, but for us acne-prone folks, getting too much sun exposure, can actually make our old acne scars darken, and make new spots get dried up.

I have a whole blog post on my favorite sunscreens, but here are a few!

-Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Fluid (SPF 50+)

-Sioris You Are My Shining Sunscreen (SPF 35+++)

-Black Girl Sunscreen (SPF 30)

Acne-prone skin can be difficult to get a handle on, but being on a routine for your skin can help with consistency, and glory skin.
