What is sensitive skin?

Sensitive skin can be described as having a reduced tolerance to products and cosmetics. Many people with sensitive skin could have increased redness, or bumps/allergic reactions.

What can cause sensitized skin?

Sensitive skin can be caused by intense skin treatments, strong active ingredients in a product, and sun damage, genetics, along with many other effects.

What can help sensitive skin?

First off, if you feel that your skin is getting worse, or that nothing helps. I recommend going to a doctor/dermatologist. For the longest time I thought that I could cure my acne, but it was not til I went to a dermatologist that I realized my acne was all hormonal, and I would not be able to fix it myself. Sometimes we cannot do it on our own, and that is okay.

If it is mild sensitivity, I would suggest using very calming products and ingredients.

What can make my skin more sensitive?

  • An over-stripping/drying cleanser

If you experience this, I would recommend going for a hydrating and calming cleanser. I highly recommend the Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser and the Round Lab Dokdo Cleanser. These both cleanse the skin beautifully, and help remove any impurities from the skin. The Krave Beauty cleanser is a bouncy-gel like texture, while the Dokdo cleanser has a whipped cloud like texture.

  • Drying acne spot treatments

Acne spot treatments are great, but using them excessively with every little bump on your skin, or worse- all over- can make your skin dry out and leave flakiness which can lead to more breakouts. I would recommend using spot treatments very sparingly, or opting for a pimple patch. I use these regularly, as they keep the pimple from getting worse, and absorb any bacteria. They also stop me from picking the spot!

  • Not wearing sunscreen

This is a big one! Not wearing sunscreen can lead to burned and irritated skin. Now being out in the sun is not bad, you should be getting some vitamin D from the sun. But excessive amounts of time out in the sun can damage your skin. I recommend wearing sunscreen everyday, to get into the habit. Especially if you have a lighter skin tone.

What products/ingredients can help my sensitive skin?

I recommend using calming ingredients and products. Now these are not the only ones, just some to start off with. One that I always go to is mugwort. This ingredient helped my skin when I was on acne medication. Incredibly calming, and hydrating. You can find so many versions of mugwort, toners, essences, sheets and many others.

Hyaluronic acid is a great humectant. Helps draw most moisture into the skin, which aids sensitive skin. When using hyaluronic acid, make sure you follow up with a good moisturizer, one that contains hyaluronic acid is even better!
